Geden Choeling, in upper McLeod Ganj, is currently alive with new construction. Since 1975, it has absorbed a steady stream of refugee nuns and consequently has been faced with chronic shortage of facilities. It now houses over 150 nuns in its overcrowded rooms.
Over a year ago, the nuns of Geden Choeling approached TNP for help in revising their minimal study program into a strong curriculum. They also realized that they needed more than just one classroom for all the nuns.
Plans were made to build a facility that could encompass both their educational and housing needs. Three dilapidated houses were torn down and replaced by a new building with four classrooms on the ground floor and housing for 30 on the top floor.
The classrooms are built but the living quarters remain to be funded.
